Each week, a member of the society gets to write a blog post sharing their experiences at one of our service activities
The purpose of the National Honor Society is to provide enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and develop character in the students of secondary groups. The burrito project represents the qualities of this club which is a great representation of the quote, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” by Mohandas Gandhi. I love this quote by Gandhi because it is an accurate representation you feel when participating in service work, specifically the burrito project. In early October, on the day of the orientation, we were able to immediately start working due to the simplicity of the task at hand. We simply made burritos with the content provided, split into groups and delivered those burritos around Salt Lake City. My first impression of this great organization was that it was an amazing way to minimize such a large issue facing a great amount of the people around us. First experiencing this situation was very eye opening, I realized how large the homeless population really is around us. This experience has taught me the importance of serving the people around you especially those within your community.
