For Hillcrest’s NHS October activity, NHS had a homecoming dance for all those living in the Canyon Creek Senior Living Center. A good portion of the chapter went to the building before the dance to decorate and its product was quite masterful. After everything was beautified, the live band began to play and the masses hit the dance floor.
This event was a great success and I honestly enjoyed it the most out of the activities that our chapter does. It was also a project that was able to reflect several of the aims and purposes of the National Honor Society. For example, a few of the members present had to take charge and help direct the setup and teardown of the night. The dance was also able to promote service because not only was Hillcrest NHS able to provide much joy to the community there, but we were able to complete it in a fun way.
There was a quite a few things that I was able to learn for the Homecoming. I was able to realize that we’re able to bring a great amount of joy to the residents of Canyon Creek with little to no resources. Although, the resources we did have (flowers and streamers) were still able to really improve the quality of the event so that might be thing to remember for next year.
One of the downsides of the activity was that I had been having a little bit of a cold during the week and I was anxious that I would get one of the homecoming dancers sick. Other than that, the NHS Hillcrest was able to have an excellent evening with those a the Canyon Creek Senior Living.
That’s it for this blog post but come back next week because I’ll be discussing why bagels are the primary reason why I go to any of the quarterly meetings!
